John Howley is an international lawyer with more than two decades of experience advising and representing multinational companies on their business interests and investments in the Philippines. He has helped clients find suitable business partners, secure contracts, negotiate joint ventures, arrange financing, recover assets, and resolve disputes.
John is a former President of the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce in New York, and he has served on the Board of Directors of that organization since 1990. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines and as a member of the President’s Circle of the Asia Society. He has been invited to speak on business and legal issues at the Harvard Business School, the Fordham University School of Business, the Asian Institute of Management, the Asia Society, and numerous other universities, corporations, and conferences.
Throughout his career, John has played a leadership role in education. He has served as Vice Chair of the Skidmore College Board of Trustees and as Chair of its Presidential Search Committee, Chair of its Infrastructure Committee, and Co-Chair of its Strategic Planning Committee. John has also served on the Board of Trustees of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities in New York, as a Trustee of New York Law School, and as Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of the Financial Policy Committee of the Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts.
John’s interest in the Philippines began in 1975 when he studied as a Rotary Exchange Scholar at Notre Dame ng Dadiangas College in General Santos City, Philippines. He earned a B.A. from Skidmore College and a J.D., magna cum laude, from New York Law School. He speaks Tagalog and Cebuano.
